You may be wondering “What the heck is (are?) ‘Managed IT Services’?” and how can it help you run your business? In a nut shell, Managed IT Services means someone else takes care of your IT environment while you take care of your business. Why would you do that? So that you can do that thing that you do best - generate more business (from current and prospective customers) for your business. Does Managed IT Services cost money? Yes. How much does Managed IT Services cost? That depends. A reputable, competent company will charge a fair price, do a quality job, and stand behind their work - which will actually save you money in the long run. You can always find someone to Manage your IT Services for a rock-bottom price. Of course, this could mean that you’re hiring a company that will use your IT environment to learn how to do the job…and cost you a lot more money in the long run. Now, what exactly does "Managed IT Services" mean? Basically, your resources such as computers, printers, etc... are maintained and supported by another company. This can be done on an hourly rate, however a wise IT company would much rather perform these functions on a monthly rate. Ok, you’re probably thinking “Fair price? Lower price? How much are we really talking about here?”. On average, most small businesses only require about 10 hours of IT support per month. At $100 per hour (an average fee), that’s $1000 per month. Yes, $12K per year is a lot of money, but it’s actually about 18-20% (at a minimum!) of what a full-time competent IT professional will cost you…not including benefits!
