Dedicated support is another area that is often overlooked when planning for your IT requirements.  Any company should be budgeting for having an offsite IT person with a professional company that is a backup or supplement to your that IT staff. Just like having a lawyer on retainer, having a qualified IT company on backup is extremely important as well.

 

Dedicated support is available in a variety of flavors as well.  Regardless of what you do, be sure and get everything in writing that clearly details exactly what you are expecting from the support company.  This helps clear up any potential confusion and helps your in-house IT staff understand very clearly his/her boundaries in calling the support company.  A well written contract will detail exactly how many hours per month the support company is going to provide and who is authorized to place calls on your behalf.  This keeps your overall cost down yet maximizes the use of the support company.
